In July 2023, the CDTI (Center for Industrial Technological Development of Spain) carried out the audit of milestone 3 of the “QHealth: Quantum Pharmacogenomics applied to aging” project. On September 15, 2023, the CDTI has issued the “Acta de Comprobación y Liquidación” (Verification and Liquidation Report) of this audit, thus formally closing the intense work carried out in QHealth during 2022.
The CDTI audit of milestone 3 of the QHealth Project has assessed very positively the technical results and the good management of the budget of 1,804,632.00 euros corresponding to the year 2022. Once again, the project has successfully passed the annual CDTI audit.
The results of the work carried out in 2022 not only show full compliance with the work plan established for this milestone, but also contain decisive advances for the fulfilment of the indicators defined for the mission related to the project.
By 2022, the research tasks of all project work packages were fully accomplished:
- the platform for the design of quantum simulation algorithms for pharmacogenomic analysis.
- the methodological and technological environment for the development of quantum software necessary for QHealth entered into the realization of the proofs of concept required for the different tasks of the corresponding work package.
- the platform for the deployment and execution of quantum software that can be integrated with classic health software for the treatment of aging.
- integration of health indicators with quantum software for the treatment of aging.
Thanks to all this research activity in milestone 3, significant progress was made in the following areas:
- The refinement of the Q-PGx (Quantum PharmacoGenomics) Model, designed by the Spanish research institute INUBE, to accurately determine the factors related to pharmacogenetic variability and interindividual difference in drug response of these sets of variables.
- A robust data model has been defined that supports the interrelation of all the variable data of the Q-PGx Model and will allow the project’s fundamental objective to be achieved: to define the optimal dose of each drug for each patient, at each time of prescription, in a fully personalized way and with high precision.
- The basic quantum algorithm capable of providing an answer to the pharmacogenomic problem to be solved in the QHealth project was released: adapting medical treatment to each person with a specific genetic profile of each patient.
- The positive results of the proof-of-concept carried out have confirmed the technical feasibility of applying these results to the real world.
- The capability of QuantumPath® to support, without limitations, a research project of the depth of QHealth, highlighting its contribution on its 100% agnostic capability to provide the most suitable scaling for the execution of multiple experiments (both on simulators and quantum computers), the efficiency to work with two quantum technological approaches (gates and annealing) and the real guarantees provided by qSOA® for the dynamic integration of quantum services with classical healthcare systems.
During 2022 the research activity has also been characterized by a high degree of innovation and invention to achieve the objectives of applying quantum computing in a practical way to Pharmacogenomics, something that has been possible thanks to the scientific and technological collaboration of the multidisciplinary teams of researchers and technologists of the Consortium formed by of aQuantum (by AlhambraIT), Gloin and Madrija, and of the Knowledge-generating Centers: INUBE, University of Castilla La Mancha (UCLM) and the University of Extremadura (UEx).
The project “QHealth: Quantum Pharmacogenomics applied to aging” has a total budget of € 5,160,477.00 and has received a grant from Misiones 2020 program of the CDTI of € 3,671,281.69, and has been supported by the Spanish Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación and by the ERDF (European Regional Development Fund).
“QHealth: Quantum pharmacogenomics applied to aging” is the first major Spanish research project on quantum computing applied to life sciences to receive funding from the CDTI (Centro para el Desarrollo Tecnológico Industrial).
Congratulations to the QHealth Team for the excellent results achieved in the CDTI audit of Milestone 3 (2022) of the project!
